Overview

Begin with a scenic boat cruise through the first gorge before you take to the waters to explore the second gorge and beyond by canoe.

Suitable for ages 6+, there are double canoes available so children can share with an adult. A high level of fitness is required.

On this self-guided adventure, you can travel at your own pace, admiring the stunning scenery and local wildlife. When you venture out further into the gorge system, you will feel a spiritual connection with the fifth, sixth and seventh gorges. This tour is a nature-lover’s dream.

Enjoy swimming, photography, bush walking and exploring.

Setup camp at the fifth, sixth, eighth or ninth gorge and watch the sun set over the escarpment walls bringing out deep reds and oranges before night falls giving you an impressive celestial display.

Day two is time to return back to the first gorge.

Notes

  • Children under 6 years not permitted due to safety regulations

  • Children aged 6-12 years MUST share a double canoe with an adult

  • You will be required to carry canoes (18-26Kg) between gorges (sometimes for up to 1 hour), so a high level of fitness is required to participate
  • Wood fires are not permitted however gas and spirit burners can be used
  • A camping permit from Parks and Wildlife is required for overnight hire

  • Canoe hire is subject to weather and river conditions. For safety reasons, canoe hire is not available approximately November to June. For more information speak to our friendly Reservations team

  • Nitmiluk Gorge is located 30kms from Katherine Township along Giles St/ Gorge Road.

  • Boarding/Registration is 30 minutes prior to departure at the Nitmiluk Boat Jetty

Canoe adventure

We took our breakfast with us and had it as we were canoeing through the gorge, it was priceless. In the canoes you can access in closer than the tour boats while also exploring at your own pace. We paddled up and back through gorge two and three.
